Job Summary:

The Music and Media Catalog/Metadata Librarian will oversee and maintain all aspects of music, media descriptions and access in an online environment. This position provides strategic planning, expertise and training for music, performing arts and media cataloging and metadata assignment and trends in Central University Libraries. This position remains active professionally and contributes to scholarship in the field.

Essential Functions:

·         Create, enhance, maintain original, complex bibliographic, authority records for music and media materials in a wide range of formats: predominately music scores and recordings.

·         Provide leadership in music, performing arts and media gift collections processing.

·         Assist with copy cataloging of music, performing arts and media materials.

·         Design and implement appropriate workflows for project management.

·         Oversee music and media cataloging and metadata assignment operations involving other Central University Libraries staff which includes Hamon Arts Library staff.

·         Train other Central University Libraries staff and create appropriate training documentation

 

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in Library and Information Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution is required.

Bachelor of Arts in music or a strong music background is strongly preferred. 

Experience in music cataloging is preferred.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Candidate must:

Demonstrate knowledge of current national cataloging/metadata content and structural standards (AACR2rev., RDA, etc.), Library of Congress Subject Headings, Library of Congress Classification, MARC formats, OCLC cataloging procedures, ability to apply non-MARC metadata schema

Possess knowledge of subject analysis and classification systems 

Be self-motivated, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team environment

Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills

Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work collegially with faculty, staff and students

Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing

Possess working knowledge of integrated library systems

Possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, email, and web browsers
