Assistant Librarian for Electronic and Digital Services – Part-Time

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Southworth Library and Learning Commons at SUNY Canton seeks a proactive, creative, service-oriented librarian with the skills to manage electronic resources, investigate and implement innovative technologies and services, participate in both face-to-face and virtual reference, and assist with collection development activities for specified department or subject areas. This position is a half-time, benefits eligible, temporary appointment with service hours of 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Assist in creating and supporting a feature-rich, user-friendly information technology environment for a diverse population of learning commons users. Collaborate with other library and learning commons staff and appropriate campus departments to enhance the library's online presence in both the traditional and online classroom environments. Maintain a robust collection of electronic resources, including coordinating access, licensing, managing proxy server authentication and configuration, troubleshooting connectivity issues and remote access, developing appropriate workflows for electronic resource management, maintaining statistical analyses and investigating best practices for discoverability. Provide reference ad instruction in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Assist other library staff with various projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:  Master's degree in Library Science or Information Science from a library school accredited by the American Library Association; thorough knowledge of principles and practices of electronic resource management; experience with or willingness to learn proxy server configuration; ability to work in a fast-paced customer-service-oriented team environment; ability to analyze and solve problems common to libraries and the higher education environment; and superior organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:  Electronic journal or database management experience; familiarity and/or experience with Serials Solutions, OpenUrl link resolvers, LibGuides, Adobe Contribute, EZproxy and web languages; 1-3 years experience in higher education environment, academic library or learning commons environment.
