California State Polytechnic University, Pomona’s University Library is currently accepting candidates for the position of Digital Initiatives Librarian

The Position

The California State Polytechnic University, Pomona University Library is seeking a dynamic and innovative librarian to play a leadership role in planning, implementing, and supporting digital collections and services. This person will provide vision and direction for all aspects of the Library's website and will work collaboratively with library staff and others to design, develop, and provide ongoing maintenance for the library’s digital resources and digital collections. This librarian will also provide training and perform outreach to the campus community regarding the library’s digital initiatives. Additionally, s/he will lead the ongoing investigation into new technologies that support and enhance library collections and services. The Digital Initiatives Librarian reports to the Dean of the Library. Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership in the development and management of digital resources and collections
• Provide leadership in the management of the Systems department.
• In collaboration with other library staff , maintain and enhance the library’s web presence and various electronic services
• Engage in significant outreach activities designed to heighten campus awareness of Open Access principles, author rights, copyright, and other important trends and issues in the growing field of digital  scholarly communication
• Coordinate and implement various digital projects on campus
• Initiate and promote scholarly communication/publishing initiatives
• Coordinate training and implementation for digitization and associated standards
• Maintain awareness and develop in-depth knowledge of new technology, relevant national standards, and best practices related to digitization and online scholarship
• Participate in reference and collection management services
• Perform related duties as assigned

 

Minimum Requirements

• Master of Library or Information Science from an ALA -accredited institution or equivalent
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Knowledge of open source software applications and open access principles and practices
• Knowledge and understanding of best practices, standards, issues and trends relating to digital initiatives in the library environment
• Experience with the concepts and applications used in organizing and presenting digital information
• Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and implement effective digital projects
• Awareness of institutional repository issues and software requirements.
• Demonstrated knowledge of web design, social networking, and graphic design programs
• Ability to learn and teach new technologies quickly
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a culturally diverse and rapidly evolving environment
• Evidence of commitment to professional growth and development
• Excellent communication skills

 

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

• Academic library experience
• Experience with project management
• Background in computer science or related field
• Knowledge of metadata standards, such as Dublin Core, MARC, METS, and MODS
• Experience programming in a scripting language such as PHP and JavaScript.
