Tenure Track position

 

 

Concordia University Libraries seeks an innovative and dynamic librarian for the tenure-track position of Head, Access Services at the Georges P.Vanier Library.

 

The Head, Access Services, is responsible for the planning, development and management of the Vanier Library’s circulation, reserves, and document delivery services.

 

The Head, Access Services, works under the direction of the Director, Vanier Library and collaborates with other Concordia Libraries units, ensuring consistency of service and efficient use of resources and technology, and providing a high quality user experience.  

 

 

Qualifications

 

Graduate degree from a library school accredited by the American Library Association, or approved equivalent education and training acceptable for membership in the Corporation of Professional Librarians of Quebec.

 

Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, flexibility, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment.

 

Initiative and strong leadership skills, willingness to share expertise, work in teams, and negotiate solutions with diverse groups. 

 

Ability to motivate and engage staff.

 

Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage staff and operations, and to set priorities.

 

Professional experience in an academic library or equivalent, including two years supervisory experience are preferred.

 

Familiarity with circulation modules of an integrated library system. Experience with Innovative Interfaces Inc. Millennium is preferred.

 

Familiarity with trends in academic library access services, particularly relating to emerging technologies.

 

Excellent communication skills.

 

Excellent interpersonal skills, with a strong service orientation.

 

Oral and written fluency in English. Oral fluency in French and basic written French are preferred.

 

Evidence of continuing professional development and involvement.

Salary and Benefits

 

The position includes a competitive and comprehensive benefit package.  Compensation and rank are commensurate with experience. The position includes a supervisory stipend. 

 

This is an academic appointment, and responsibilities include research, publication, and service to meet requirements for tenure and promotion.  Librarians are members of the Concordia University Faculty Association (CUFA).

 

Appointment will commence immediately or at date to be negotiated.
