Position: Director of Library and Information Services

 

INSTITUTION

POSITION SUMMARY

Director of Library & Information Services manages library programs and services through planning, administering, mentoring and reviewing the acquisition, development, maintenance & use of ADA resources; provides access to information and resources for ADA clients; directly involved in planning, administration and capacity building and adheres to a client oriented approach. The position is at a faculty level.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Manages the library's resources, including developing plans for the allocation and reallocation of resources, selection and ordering of materials;

·         Guides and directs the library's collection and development;

·         Compiles library resources databases, manages cataloguing and cross-cataloguing of ADA and other library resources; maintains network of ADA with other libraries and resource centers; establishes and maintains comprehensive library files for various libraries; maintains current listings for all libraries, take a leadership role in the local and regional library community ;

·         Makes resources available to ADA users through a systematically developed collection; develops and implements policies and procedures which ensure that access to information is not impeded ;

·         Oversees the physical facilities for library; schedules users visits; organizes and manages the library facility in a manner that encourages access making it friendly and welcoming place ;

·         Administers budgets for ADA library resources; create and/or update documentation for the management of procedures and maintain accurate records of all library accounts ;

·         Manages and helps maintain the Innovative Millennium system;

·         Provides general services and consultations to ADA clients; informs ADA users of new materials, equipment and services; assists to clients in the selection/use of materials and information resources;

·         Conducts training in resource orientation; prepares training materials and handouts; evaluates learning effectiveness in various contexts;

·         Staffing, recruitment, supervision and training;

·         Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor (the Executive Dean of ADA).

 

RequireMENTS

·         ALA accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science ;

·         At least 10 years of relevant international work experience—preferably with new libraries;

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills  in English ;

·         Effective interpersonal, communication  and excellent problem solving skills ;

·         Must be able to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals ;

·         Expertise in automated library management systems—preferably the Innovative Millennium system;

·         A record of providing the highest level of service at a university level in a culturally diverse environment.

The current annual salary range for this position is US$80,000-USD$100,000 USD (plus furnished accommodation and yearly round-trip airfare for the employee);
