Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian
 
General Position Description:
 
Trinity University seeks applications from energetic, innovative librarians for its Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian position. This position provides leadership in identifying, licensing, acquiring, and providing access to electronic resources and print serials. Other responsibilities include communication with service providers, staff training and supervision, collection development activities, and library instruction in assigned subject areas. This is a tenure-track, faculty position with a 12-month contract.
 
 
Specific Responsibilities: 
 
The Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian coordinates the purchasing, licensing, and access of electronic resources and print serial publications, including trials, quotes, new orders, annual academic department subscriptions review, renewals, cancellations, and troubleshooting; assists with the implementation and ongoing administration of Innovative's Electronic Resource Management module; maintains catalog records, an A-Z list, an OpenURL link resolver, and other utilities; communicates with vendors regarding the library’s print and electronic subscriptions; assists with the continuing commitments portions of the library’s acquisitions budget; ensures that staff and student workers have the resources required to do their work; stays current with trends in serials, electronic access, and scholarly publishing in general.
 
The Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian offers the Head of Discovery Services recommendations and suggestions relevant to his or her responsibilities; stays current with trends in academic libraries and higher education; evaluates and selects library materials in assigned subject areas, which requires involvement with approval, firm order, serial, and gift processes; handles other collection development tasks, including weeding and reclassification; prepares and produces instructional material, library guides, and Web pages for assigned departments; offers library instruction for classes taught by faculty in assigned subject areas; and participates in the life of the campus by serving on faculty committees, governing bodies, task forces, and so forth.
 
This is a full-time, twelve-month, tenure-track position at assistant professor rank reporting to the Head of Discovery Services.
 
Qualifications:
 
An ALA-accredited MLS degree or its international equivalent; a minimum of one year of experience managing serials and/or electronic resources operations in an academic setting; knowledge of integrated library systems, bibliographic utilities, and other tools for information management or bibliographic control such as electronic resource management systems and journal management systems; ability to assess and implement workflows, manage projects, and establish and document departmental policies and procedures; strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills; supervisory experience; solid facility with personal computer applications and Web-based services; ability to exercise initiative and creativity in response to change in the work environment; and knowledge of current and emerging trends in scholarly publishing, serials, and academic library services and resources. Abilities to satisfy departmental criteria in job performance, scholarly or research achievement, and service to the university and the profession are required for tenure and promotion.
