PENN STATE GREATER ALLEGHENY
 
The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invite applicants for the position of Head Librarian at Penn State Greater Allegheny.  Penn State Greater Allegheny is located on a fifty-two acre campus in Allegheny County, about fifteen miles southeast of Pittsburgh. This is a tenure-track faculty position. The head librarian is a member of the University Libraries faculty and is responsible for overall library administration and services at the Greater Allegheny campus library.  The head librarian works closely with faculty in developing collections and providing innovative library instruction and services, participates in planning and development, supervises the library staff, and is expected to build effective and close involvement with students, faculty, the community, and the libraries at University Park and the other Penn State campus locations. In addition, librarians on the tenure track devote time to research and scholarly activity, and are active in service related to the University, the public, and the profession.  The work environment in the University Libraries is both collaborative and very supportive.
 
REQUIREMENTS: Requires MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent), at least three years professional academic library experience with evidence of substantial reference and library instruction skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and a strong commitment to service.  Second advanced degree desirable. 
 
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Potential for promotion and tenure will be considered based upon University standards in librarianship, research, service, and outreach.  Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits include liberal vacation, excellent insurance and health care coverage, state or TIAA/CREF retirement options, and educational privileges.
 
ENVIRONMENT:  Penn State, a land-grant institution, is a member of the CIC (Big 10) academic consortium. The Penn State University Libraries currently rank 8th in North America among private and public research universities, based on Association for Research Libraries data. In  2009 Washington Monthly, a political, inside-the-beltway publication, ranked Penn State 7th in the nation among public universities in preparing students to benefit the nation. The Libraries hold membership in ARL, OCLC, and CRL.
 
Penn State Greater Allegheny has approximately 800 students; with about twenty percent living in on-campus housing.  The campus is about fifteen miles from Pittsburgh and only fifteen minutes from the new Waterfront development area.  The campus offers 6 Bachelor’s degrees, minors in 5 subjects, 4 associate degree programs, and the first 2 years of over 160 Penn State baccalaureate programs.  The campus also offers a wide variety of continuing education programs, and has close ties to the community it serves.  The J.
