ELECTRONIC RESOURCES LIBRARIAN

American University of Sharjah

 

The AUS Library is seeking an energetic and knowledgeable Electronic Resources Librarian to join its service-oriented team. The successful candidate will work closely with library colleagues to provide an integrated approach to the management and delivery of the library’s electronic resources.

 

Primary responsibilities include: acquisitions, licensing, implementation, assessment and ongoing maintenance of the online collections; managing the ERM system; cataloging and coordinating bibliographic records between the ERM, Serials Solutions and the Millennium catalog; troubleshooting problems arising from subscription, licensing or access-related technical issues including link resolution and federated searching; collecting and analyzing database usage statistics.

 

Required

An ALA-accredited MLS degree with minimum of 3 years experience. Knowledge of operating systems in both server and desktop environments; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; superior technology skills with openness to emerging technologies. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Candidates must have ability to initiate and complete projects in a timely and independent manner.

 

Preferred

·         Familiarity with ERM standards such as OpenURL, COUNTER, SUSHI

  • Knowledge of metadata standards and formats including MARC, Dublin Core, AACR2, RDA, LCSH
  • Working knowledge of Javascript, XML, HTML, CSS , Web 2.0 and web development tools

·         2 years experience in electronic resource management, commercial knowledge bases  or digital serials management

  • Experience working in a university or research environment
  • Experience with Millennium integrated library system

 

Salary and Benefits

The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes additional month’s salary per year. The American University of Sharjah is located in the United Arab Emirates and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Established in 1997, the university consists of four Schools and Colleges: Architecture and Design, Business and Management, Engineering, and Arts and Sciences and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees to 5000 students from 80 different countries. The language of instruction and the workplace is English, and knowledge of Arabic is not required.
