[LIBJOBS] Head of Access Services - Alkek Library - Texas State Univ - San Marcos - TX - US

 

 

The Alkek Library is seeking enthusiastic and forwarding-thinking applicants for the position of Head of Access Services.  This position is responsible for the management and development of the Access Services Department which includes a staff of eleven Library Assistants. Service areas include circulation, stacks maintenance, reserves, and media/periodicals/microforms.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide leadership for planning, delivery, and assessment of access services responsive to the needs of the university community;  Manage department operations; Supervise, mentor, and appraise department staff; May serve on the Library Council with other department heads to develop policy and seek solutions to current issues; Work collegially and lead teams; Perform space planning for public services areas; May serve as a member of the Library System Team; Interface with library users to address suggestions and complaints; Prepare and maintain the annual library public service calendar; Compile circulation statistics and prepare annual report tables; Perform Website maintenance work via Content Management System (CMS); Participate in reference services (optional); Engage in professional activities in accordance with Texas State University’s standards for promotion for professional librarians.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Required:  Master’s degree from an ALA accredited library

program; Minimum two years of professional experience; Evidence of

progressively responsible experience; Effective managerial and supervisory experience;

Problem-solving and decision-making skills; Ability to foster effective working

relationships with library and academic colleagues; Ability to work in a

team based environment and to collaborate effectively; Strong oral and written

communication skills; Ability to provide leadership in adopting new technologies, space

planning, and developing new services in a changing library environment; Experience

with an integrated library system; Enthusiastic public services orientation; Working

knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, reference related software, and the Internet.

 

Preferred: Experience assessing library services; Project management (including

change management) skills; Knowledge of library space planning/redesign in a Learning

Commons environment; Knowledge of copyright law as it pertains to Reserves and AV

materials; Experience designing websites or other gateways to collections and

services, including Web 2.0 technologies; Knowledge of academic reference sources and

trends in contemporary reference services; Knowledge of web content management

systems such as Magnolia, Drupal, Joomla, etc.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS:   $50,656 - $71,207 annually depending on assigned rank based on qualifications and experience. Available ranks include Associate Librarian, and Librarian. Advancement in rank is available through the Librarian Career Ladder. Benefits include monthly contribution to health insurance/benefits package and retirement program after initial ninety days of employment. No state or local income tax.
