Head of the Bibliographic Data Section (ISSN International Centre)
A – Context :
The ISSN International Centre is an intergovernmental organisation located in Paris (France). The mission of the ISSN Network, which is made today of 87 member countries, is to identify all serial publications (such as journals, reviews, magazines, etc.) and other “continuing resources” published worldwide.
The International Centre co-ordinates and leads the network of member countries, promotes the ISSN system worldwide, manages the international database which registers all identified publications, and develops for its customers various products deriving from the database.
The International Centre is made of a Bibliographic Data section, a Project and computer section, a Promotion / communication / sales section, and a General management section (administration, finances and human resources).
B – Job description
The ISSN International Centre recruits the Head of its Bibliographic Data section.
In close collaboration with the Director, and under the Director’s direct authority, the Head of the section manages the ISSN system identification data and the bibliographic function in general, is in charge of surveying the changes appearing in the field in general, which he (she) analyses, and makes suggestions for the evolution of the system.
Main responsibilities :
a. Organizes, implements and supervises the work of the Section, in particular the assignment of ISSN and the production of the corresponding records
b. Organizes and supervises the Section’s relations with National Centers , Publishers and ISSN users, in general
c. Follows up international and national (France) standardization issues in relation with ISSN.
d. Contributes to the definition and follow up of the strategic and operational objectives, in particular in the data management and bibliographic fields.
The position includes, in an international context, responsibilities in management, organisation, representation of the International Centre in France and abroad, communication and negotiation with actors from the publishing, data base production, distribution, libraries and documentation worlds.
Position located in Paris (France) and implying travels in France and abroad (contacts with users, participation in congresses and various professional events,…).
Limited time contract (2 years)
C - Required education, skills and experience
a ) 5-year university diploma or equivalent
b ) Skills and experience in data management, bibliographic matters, and information systems.
c ) Successful experience in a similar position (including experience in team management, communication, organization)
d ) Fluent English and French, other languages would be appreciated
e ) Experience of work in an international context would be appreciated
