Serials Librarian

 

The University of Arkansas Libraries seek an innovative, experienced, and highly motivated individual to serve as Serials Librarian.  Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, the Serials Librarian manages the Serials Unit, which consists of 9 FTE staff, in the acquisition and cataloging of print and online continuing resources.  Primary responsibilities include: working with publishers to verify coverage and access to subscribed content; performing original and complex copy cataloging of serials and other continuing resources according to national and local standards and creating MARC21 holdings records in WorldCat and the local online catalog; analyzing and adjusting workflow, policies, and procedures for the unit; overseeing the Libraries’ Electronic Resources Management (ERM) system; working with the Director for Collection Management Services to archive and report holdings to the Western Regional Storage Trust (WEST); and working with subject specialists and campus faculty and staff on issues involving serials.

 

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service; demonstrated interpersonal skills encompassing the ability to interact with a variety of colleagues and levels of staff; ability to use technology in creative ways to solve problems and create efficiencies; demonstrated ability to promote teamwork, equality, and inclusiveness; and excellent written and oral communication skills. 

 

Responsibilities of this position include research and creative work and service in keeping with the faculty requirements of the University of Arkansas.  The successful candidate must have demonstrated accomplishments in performance, scholarly activity, and professional service to meet criteria for appointment at the level of Associate Librarian / Associate Professor.  A dossier will be required for appointment and hiring.

 

Qualifications.  Required:  A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program; a minimum of four years of relevant combined experience with serials cataloging and serials management; current knowledge of trends and best practices in serials services, including electronic resource management; knowledge of AACR2/RDA and other standard cataloging tools, OCLC local holdings records, and CONSER standards; and relevant experience using an integrated library system.  Preferred: A minimum of one year of supervisory experience; experience in performing name, series, and subject authority work; collection development experience; and working knowledge of one or more foreign languages.

 

Rank and Salary:  Tenure-track, twelve-month faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Librarian / Associate Professor.  Salary: $65,000.
