[LIBJOBS] USA-South Orange, NJ - Assistant Dean of University Libraries for Public Services

The Assistant Dean of University Libraries for Public Services assists the Dean and works closely with administrative and Library faculty colleagues to carry out the mission of the Libraries and to provide leadership, direction and oversight for the planning and operations of the Libraries' faculty, staff, services, and collections at Seton Hall. The Assistant Dean will help develop programmatic and organizational initiatives to enhance the academic program and other services provided to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other constituencies. She/he will contribute her/his individual skills and expertise as needed in order to achieve the goals and objectives set by the organization. Motivates, listens, communicates, and generally oversees the work of assigned Library functions, with a proven ability to analyze, follow through, help make services more efficient, particularly in the use of new tools and technologies.

Specifically, the Assistant Dean of University Libraries for Public Services will provide leadership and direction for the Public Services departments and units including reference, instruction and the Libraries' liaison services. The Assistant Dean provides administrative oversight of personnel, services, and activities; partners with library units and administrative colleagues on communications and promotional strategies and assists with the planning and design of the Libraries' spaces to enhance learning; collaborates and provides leadership in implementing appropriate Web-enabled tools and technologies in advancing the University's and the Libraries' goals; ensures appropriate internal and external communication; serves as the primary advocate to ensure that the Library gives excellent service and access to materials as it responds to current and future needs of the user community; works in close collaboration with administrative colleagues (especially on technology initiatives), Library faculty and staff . Makes recommendations to the Dean; also serves as librarian liaison providing library instruction, reference services, research support, and collection development services for selected program areas; other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

M.L.S. or demonstrated experience with/knowledge of a combination of both current library technologies and trends and services.
5-8 years relevant work experience in progressively responsible library positions.
Must have library experience (supervisory and management experience with professional personnel desired). Must have progressively responsible experience with selecting, guiding and shaping library services and library processes.
High level of demonstrated analytical ability, re: documentation of reports, use of data, etc. Documented record of successful implementation, completion, and follow up to typical library projects in a leadership role.
Highly important formal and informal communication of policies and guidelines at all levels of the Library and University.
Must have excellent organizational skills to go with the communication skills noted above; must demonstrate inclusive leadership style. Must demonstrate collaborative and team-oriented management approach.
