Head, Instruction and Outreach
The University of Arkansas Libraries seek applications and nominations for the position of Head, Instruction and Outreach. The head leads the department made up of subject librarians for agriculture, business, education, engineering, geosciences, social and life sciences, and mathematics and works with all librarians who provide collection development and instruction to deliver effective services to students and faculty in classrooms, academic departments, residence halls, and the University’s Global Campus.
Working in an environment where constant change and transformation occur, the head provides collaborative leadership in the development and assessment of an effective and engaging library instructional program in conjunction with the collection management program to meet the information requirements of the teaching and research programs of the university and promotes the library and its resources. Responsibilities of this position include research and creative work and service in keeping with the faculty requirements of the University of Arkansas. The successful candidate must have demonstrated accomplishments in performance, scholarly activity, and professional service to meet criteria for appointment at the level of librarian/professor. A dossier will be required for appointment and hiring.
Qualifications. Required: A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program and a minimum of seven years of experience with research and instruction programs and collection development in support of both undergraduate and graduate research programs; demonstrated experience with assessment tools and strategies; and demonstrated understanding of, and receptiveness to, the uses of emerging technologies, such as Blackboard Collaborate, to meet changing user needs. A strong commitment to providing effective customer service; excellent interpersonal skills encompassing the ability to work collegially as a member of a team; strong analytical and organizational skills; and excellent written and oral communication skills. Preferred: Knowledge of trends and issues in scholarly communications; experience with delivering research and instructional services in a distance education or virtual environment; and demonstrated success with managing or coordinating projects and/or people.
Rank and Salary: Tenure-track, twelve-month faculty appointment at the rank of Librarian / Professor. Salary: $75,000.
