ECU Libraries, East Carolina University, seeks an experienced and innovative individual with excellent organizational skills for the position of Digital Collections Coordinator.  Reporting to Academic Library Services’ Assistant Director for Special Collections, the Digital Collections Coordinator will provide innovative and sustainable solutions for the presentation, maintenance, and promotion of ECU Libraries’ digital collections. ECU Libraries consists of Academic Library Services (Joyner and Music Libraries), as well as the William E. Laupus Health Sciences Library.

 

Specific Responsibilities

•             Manage the Digital Collections Department which consists of two full-time staff members and their graduate and undergraduate student assistants.

•             In collaboration with librarians, faculty, administration, and other stakeholders, lead, manage, and participate in projects related to ECU Libraries’ digital collections and  digital preservation program.

•             Establish policies and best practices for the long-term protection of and access to digital objects.

•             Lead, manage, and participate in the planning and implementation of projects in a variety of formats, monitor the timely progress of ongoing projects, and create documentation for project-related activities.

•             Improve access to digital collections through ongoing assessment and usability testing of the department’s services.

•             Develop goals and objectives for ECU Libraries’ digitization efforts that align with the Libraries’ and university’s mission.

•             Identify, apply for, and manage grant projects.

•             Manage external contracts providing digitization and other related services.

•             Participate in marketing and outreach efforts by contributing content to ECU Libraries’ web sites, social media efforts, and electronic publications and by working with faculty, students and staff.

•             Maintain current expertise through participation in workshops, classes, professional associations and networks, and through continued awareness of the scholarly literature.

•             Serve limited hours at the Joyner Library Special Collections public service desk, including occasional night and/or weekend shifts.

 

Required Qualifications

•             ALA-accredited graduate degree in library science or international equivalent, or master’s degree in information science, computer science, or related discipline.

•             At least 2 years of full-time project management experience with library digital collections in a highly collaborative environment.

•             Supervisory experience.

•             Demonstrated technical experience with current digital collection technologies, standards, platforms and products.

•             Working knowledge of digital preservation standards and best practices, and metadata standards including Dublin Core, MODS, and TEI.

•             Experience with digital repository systems.

•             Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills in an environment requiring attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

•             Strong commitment to public service.

•             Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

•             Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially for the purpose of describing and communicating technical issues to a variety of audiences.

 

Preferred Qualifications

•             Substantial experience in collaboratively managing multiple simultaneous projects.

•             Experience providing grant support and/or grant writing.

•             Additional graduate degree in a related field.

•             Knowledge of copyright issues pertaining to digital collections.

•             Knowledge of trends relating to digital humanities.

Rank, Salary and Benefits: This is a fixed term appointment, which may subsequently be renewed for a multi-year appointment period following the initial year of employment.  Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications.  Minimum salary of $46,000, with a comprehensive fringe benefits package.
