The Pennsylvania State University Libraries seek an outstanding librarian to hold the endowed faculty position of the Larry and Ellen Foster Communications Librarian in the Schreyer Business Library on the University Park campus.
Responsibilities:
The Foster Communications Librarian serves as the subject specialist and liaison for the College of Communications (comm.psu.edu). The College of Communications offers five undergraduate majors: advertising/public relations; film-video; journalism; media studies; and telecommunications. The graduate program offers a master’s degree in media studies and a doctoral degree in mass communications. The College sponsors nine research centers, ranging from the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism to the Don Davis Program in Ethical Leadership. The Foster Communications Librarian supports the College of Communications providing an engaging information literacy program that serves resident and online students; providing research consultation and reference services to students studying these disciplines; by developing and managing excellent collections that serve the research needs of students and faculty; participating in scholarly communication initiatives; and actively collaborating in outreach initiatives with collegiate faculty in these disciplines. The Foster Communications Librarian engages in research, scholarly publishing, and demonstrates leadership at the national/international level in professional or disciplinary associations. The Foster Communications Librarian will work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the Libraries, especially those in the Schreyer Business Library, Social Sciences, and Arts & Humanities libraries. As a senior faculty member, the Foster Communications Librarian will provide leadership for library and university-wide initiatives. This position reports to the Head of the Schreyer Business Library.
As an endowed faculty position, the Foster Communications librarianship provides support for programs, collection development, travel, and research.
Required Qualifications:
A Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent); substantial relevant experience at an academic, special, or research library; excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; distinguished scholarship and professional accomplishments; strong record of service in an appropriate professional or disciplinary association; and a desire to work in a collaborative, student-centered environment.
Preferred qualifications:
Academic background in one or more of the relevant disciplines.

Compensation and Rank:
This is a tenure-track faculty position. Based upon the University and Libraries’ standards in librarianship, research, service and outreach, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Librarian with tenure. Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include liberal vacation, excellent insurance and health care coverage, state or TIAA/CREF retirement options, and educational privileges. In addition, faculty in the University Libraries are afforded funds for professional development travel annually. Faculty may be asked to travel as official representatives of the Libraries to certain events and those trips are reimbursed at full cost within limits established by the University.
