Job Title: Reference & Instruction Librarian, Assistant Professor to Associate Professor

 

Campus:  Long Island University, Brooklyn Library

 

Job Duties:


LIU Brooklyn Library seeks a Reference & Instruction Librarian for this tenure-track faculty position which includes extensive instruction and reference responsibilities in a fast-paced, technology-supported environment.  The successful candidate will have a thorough grounding in traditional library services, demonstrated teaching skills necessary to create and deliver a wide- range of information literacy instruction sessions, as well as experience in the application of digital and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning. The successful candidate will provide a high-level of reference service, teach classes in the Library's information literacy and curriculum-integrated instruction programs, and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to user-centered services. Other responsibilities include participation in Library planning activities, collection development, outcomes assessment, committee assignments, and professional development.  Position may include some weekend and evening responsibilities. 

 

Qualifications:  

 

Applicants should possess a Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution and at least three years' reference and instructional experience, preferably in an academic library.  Successful candidates should possess a strong service orientation, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.  The successful candidate will work with a diverse range of people, both independently and in a team environment.  The ability to work collaboratively with both teaching and library faculty is essential.  (Thirty additional graduate credits beyond the MLS or a second master's degree are required for assistant professor appointment).

 

Preferred qualifications:

 

Background/educational credentials in the sciences, especially health sciences, education, and/or business.

 

Salary:  Commensurate with experience.

 

Starting Date: September 2013.
