[LIBJOBS] Open Position: Reference and Instruction Librarian, Penn State University, Uniontown, Pennsylvania

REFERENCE & INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN
PENN STATE FAYETTE
 
The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invite applications for the position of Reference and Instruction Librarian at the Penn State Fayette Campus. The Reference and Instruction Librarian is a member of the University Libraries faculty and is responsible for providing reference and library instruction services to the Fayette campus community. This position also has shared responsibility for developing collections and library outreach services, participating in planning activities, and serving on appropriate campus and University Libraries committees. This is a non-tenure track, renewable fixed term faculty position on a twelve month contract that reports to the Head Librarian at Penn State Fayette. Some evening and weekend work is required.
 
REQUIREMENTS: Requires MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent), demonstrated knowledge of academic and library applications of Web 2.0 technologies, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Academic library experience is desirable and demonstrated instructional skills are valued highly.
 
ENVIRONMENT: Penn State, a land-grant institution, is a member of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), a consortium of the Big Ten universities plus the University of Chicago. Based on current Association for Research Libraries investment rankings, Penn State is now among the top ten research libraries in North America.  A Penn State student survey completed in 2010 found overall student satisfaction with the Libraries to be at the top of its category.  The Libraries hold membership in ARL, OCLC, and CRL. Collections exceed 5.8 million volumes, including more than 102,000 current serial subscriptions.  Penn State Fayette is a commuter campus with approximately 1100 students; about 35 percent of which are adult students. The campus offers 4 bachelor’s degrees, 9 associate degrees, and the first 2 years of over 160 Penn State undergraduate degree programs. Penn State Fayette is located just outside Uniontown, Pennsylvania which is about 1 hour south of Pittsburgh and 30 minutes from Morgantown, West Virginia. 
 
SALARY AND BENEFITS:  Excellent fringe benefits include liberal vacation, excellent insurance, state or TIAA/CREF retirement options, and educational privileges.  Faculty in the University Libraries carrying the appointment of Fixed Term Multi-Year are afforded $1500 for professional development travel annually.
