ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

TITLE OF POSITION:                               Evening and Weekend Circulation Supervisor                 

                                                                         

DEPARTMENT:                                          Law School – Library, Lincoln Center                                                                        

 

Located at the center of America’s most dynamic legal market and in the cultural heart of New York City, the Fordham Law School Law Library is a comprehensive collection of legal materials including over 600,000 volumes and equivalents in American, international, and foreign law, as well as subscriptions to a wide variety of the most authoritative electronic information sources available. The Evening/Weekend Circulation Supervisor is at the front lines of the library’s efforts to make these resources available to the library’s diverse and demanding patron group at the times when they need them most. The University has begun building a new law school facility and the successful candidate will gain invaluable experience preparing for the move and helping to establish circulation policies and procedures for the new library.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises part-time and full-time circulation clerks under the supervision of the Circulation Librarian
  • Oversees operation of the circulation department in absence of the Circulation Librarian, especially on evenings, weekends, and on occasional holidays
  • Participates in the formation, enforcement, and interpretation of circulation rules and policies
  • Monitors the physical stacks and arranges for repairs with the library building manager
  • Monitors the physical condition of the collection
  • Plans and oversees the shift of library materials to allow for continued growth of the collection
  • Coordinates with other library departments and participates in setting and implementation of library policies and procedures
  • Participates in planning for move of the library collection to a new building
  • Additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in library circulation; supervisory experience is preferred
  • Must be willing to work a Wednesday-Sunday evening schedule including some holidays
  • Familiarity with automated library circulation systems, preferably Innovative Interfaces, Inc.’s Millennium
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Ability to push fully loaded book trucks and ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Interest in pursuing graduate work in librarianship or another academic field is strongly preferred
