Associate Librarian Technical Services

The James E. Tobin Library is currently seeking an experienced individual to lead its technical services area. This department is comprised of multiple back end processes, all of which contribute to both the effectiveness and efficiency of overall library services. Discrete functions of this department include: Interlibrary Loan (ILL), Reserves, Cataloging/ILS Systems, Periodicals and Acquisitions. Reporting to the Library Director, this is a non-tenured 12 month Administrative position. Screening of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled; the earliest estimated start date is July 1, 2012.

Duties include:

• Original and copy cataloging of materials in all formats including periodicals and electronic resources (ebooks)
• Resolving complex bibliographic problems and conflicts within OPAC records
• Formulating and implementing new workflows and processes as technologies change
• Providing departmental supervision and training and/or cross training for eight staff members plus student assistants in cataloging and support tasks
• Continually monitoring cataloging policies and procedures; implementing improvements when necessary
• Planning and implementing metadata schema
• Managing bibliographic data and authority files with strict adherence to LOC standards
• Working with the Library Director and other departmental heads in establishing goals, objectives, standards as well as policies, procedures and priorities for various library initiatives
• Serves on college committees as necessary
• Serves as library liaison to assigned academic disciplines
• Other library related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• A Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution. Note: a second Master’s Degree is required for title of Associate Librarian.
• A minimum of five years of cataloging experience working with print and digital records, preferably within an academic environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of international cataloging standards; in particular MARC21 formats for bibliographic and authority data, Anglo American Cataloging Rules (AACR2)/Resource Description and Access (RDA) and Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH)
• Demonstrated experience with MarcEdit, and OCLC Connexion or other bibliographic utilities and electronic cataloging tools such as Cataloger’s Desktop and Classification Web
• Demonstrated experience working with patron records
• Demonstrated supervisory, project management and team building experience
• Experience working with ExLibris Voyager ILS highly preferred
• Working knowledge of acquisitions management as well as access of eBook content in a demand driven model desirable
