The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library at The University of Montana seeks a creative and dynamic leader for the position of Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Management Librarian. This is a twelve-month tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library is the largest library in the state of Montana with a tradition of collaboration with a variety of state and regional library partners. About the job

Reporting to the Head of Bibliographic Management Services, this position provides expertise and leadership in the procurement, licensing, management, and support of ongoing access to electronic and print information resources purchased by UM libraries as well as the shared consortial resources purchased for the Montana University System and affiliated institutions. Collaborating with administration, Collection Development Group Chair, library faculty and staff, this position contributes to the planning, development, coordination and implementation of departmental initiatives; acquisition and implementation of collection management technologies; and the insurance of bibliographic data quality. Responsibilities include working with open URL linking technologies, managing web-scale discovery tools (e.g. Serials Solutions’ Summon), budgeting, analyzing usage statistics, licensing, facilitating communications between staff and internal constituents (such as subject librarians), and coordinating staff training and workflows. Additional opportunities may include original and complex copy cataloging for a variety of library materials (specifically continuing and electronic resources); metadata creation; contributing name and/or subject authority records through NACO/SACO state funnel participation; staff supervision and reference assistance.

The Successful Candidate Will:

  • Have excellent analytical, organizational, time, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of current models, practices, trends, and tools used by academic libraries for acquisitions, access and discoverability of e-resources, such as open URL access, web scale discovery, and electronic resource management software.
  • Have a current awareness of national trends and developments in cataloging, metadata standards and information retrieval, including RDA and FRBR.
  • Have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a strong commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Have the aptitude to pay close attention to details and to be accurate in this work
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and individual initiative and will have the flexibility and desire to work in a fast-paced changing environment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience implementing, managing, and troubleshooting acquisitions processes for e-resources, monographs and/or media in a consortial and/or an academic environment (licensing, access provision, electronic resource management, web-scale discovery tools)
  • One year of acquisitions, serials, or electronic resources experience, preferably in an academic or research library.
  • Proficiency with using relational databases, spreadsheets and/or other similar tools.
  • Demonstrated successful supervisory experience in a collaborative, team-based organization.
  • Experience with integrated library systems (Voyager), ERM (Serials Solutions), web proxy servers (EZproxy), and MARC editing tools (MarcEdit).
  • Experience with cataloging electronic resources, serials and/or foreign language materials according to BIBCO/CONSER standards and familiarity with non-MARC metadata schemes and their application for digital collections.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in library sciences from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited graduate program.
  • Working experience or coursework in cataloging, indexing and/or metadata
  • Ability to meet standards for achieving tenure and promotion
