Digital Resources Librarian

Allegheny College, a small liberal arts college located in northwest Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Digital Resources Librarian. This is a new full-time position in Pelletier Library reporting to the Head of Resources and Metadata Management. In collaboration with staff in the library and technology services, the successful candidate will be the primary support person for the library's management of internally-created digital resources, including manuscripts, images, audio / video, and student / faculty research and publications. In particular, the candidate will be responsible for managing the library's DSpace institutional repository and ArtStor Shared Shelf, providing support for the College's open access initiative, working with librarians and instructional technologists to create and manage a new library website, and working one evening reference shift per week during the academic year. As necessary and as time permits, the candidate will also assist with managing commercially-vended digital resources.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent.
  • Understanding of institutional repositories and digital asset management systems.
  • Knowledge of Dublin Core and VRA.
  • Experience assisting students and faculty with research both in person and online.
  • Creativity, flexibility, enthusiasm, and the ability and desire to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the institution.
  • Good analytical, organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent writing, speaking, teaching and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of liberal arts education and its implications to libraries.
  • Proven ability to assess the need for and acquire additional technology and technical skills.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a small academic library.
  • Knowledge of scholarly communications.
  • Experience with DSpace and / or Artstor Shared Shelf.
  • Familiarity with WordPress, XML, CSS, XSLT, APIs, JavaScript and SQL.
  • Experience with managing and creating streaming audio and video.
