University Library Position:

Senior Assistant Librarian (full-time, 12-month tenure-track appointment), User Experience and Outreach Librarian

Starting Date:

December 1, 2016

Minimum Qualifications:

MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school. Verifiable track record creating, planning and implementing new and innovative programs that engage targeted user groups. Understanding of design thinking and user experience principles, trends and initiatives. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in English. Comfortable working alone as an independent self-starter or on teams both as a leader and contributor. Potential for scholarly publication and professional achievement. Demonstrated ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an academic library.  Demonstrated teaching experience and familiarity with information literacy standards and outcomes as they reflect current library teaching practice.  Experience as a leader on long-term projects related to outreach and engagement that supported organizational goals. Experience with social media, marketing, assessment, outreach and conducting user experience and/or usability studies.

Duties:

The California State University, Los Angeles, Library seeks an energetic, innovative and self-motivated librarian to: Lead the library-wide initiative to establish and maintain a proactive and responsive user-centered physical and online environment; Create innovative library programming to assure alignment between library and overall University mission and goals reflected in its strategic plan; Evaluate and assess all library services and programs and recommend changes to policies, services, etc. to ensure that user needs are being met;  Working with others, conduct usability and accessibility testing and design to improve the library's web experience; Apply and implement user-centered design models and frameworks that enable a deep understanding of library user behaviors, needs, and preferences;  Stay abreast of innovative academic library customer service trends & practices, effective use of space, etc.; Coordinate library-wide initiatives to promote and increase awareness of library services and programs; Establish strategic partnerships internally (campus departments/programs serving targeted student groups) and externally (high schools, public libraries, community colleges, etc.) by identifying outreach opportunities, developing and implementing instructional activities and services, and assessing outcomes; Coordinate the library's participation in campus and community events; Work with library faculty and staff colleagues to develop strategies for library programming and community engagement;  Assist with the development of library marketing strategies and publicity materials; Stay informed of funding opportunities available through government programs and private sources and seek grant-based funding to support library programs and initiatives; Serve as an instructor and possibly a selector to specific academic departments and programs and provide on-call reference and research assistance.  

Salary:

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, 12-month tenure-track appointment at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian.
