The Director, is a senior management position with responsibility for Library Services, AU Press, Institutional records (comprising Thomas A. Edge Archives & Special Collections, Records Management and the Art Collection), and the Copyright Office. The operations of the department are distributed, with the Library, Institutional Records and Copyright office located in Athabasca, and the Press in Edmonton. The incumbent provides dynamic and visionary leadership to these areas, promoting and supporting the development of high quality, innovative services and resources for students, faculty, staff and external stakeholders. The Director is accountable for the strategic direction of all areas of the department, and ensures that its operations are aligned with the University's mission and mandate, strategic goals and institutional plans.

 

The incumbent is accountable for the management of the department's budgets, and for strategic planning and policy development in each area. The Director has primary responsibility for staff in the department across multiple bargaining units, ensuring that collective agreements and human resource policies are followed, and providing direct supervision of staff located in different centres.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

The successful candidate must have a Master of Library and Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) or equivalent accredited school, and a Master's degree, (PhD preferred) in an appropriate field in the arts, humanities, or social sciences, or equivalent, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered and Fifteen years of progressively more responsible academic library and publishing experience, with at least five years of experience in each area. All educational credentials must be recognized in Canada.
