FACULTY POSITION
Instruction and First-Year Experience Librarian
NYU ABU DHABI

The NYU Abu Dhabi Library invites applications for an Instruction & First-Year Experience Librarian in an innovative and forward-looking setting.  Reporting to the Director of Libraries at NYUAD and as part of a collaborative team, the position plays a key role in the educational mission of NYU Abu Dhabi by providing dynamic and enthusiastic support to students and faculty, with a special focus on first-year students and programs.  The librarian will be responsible for providing personal connections to new students and helping them transition to college-level research.  The role involves program and curriculum development, implementation and assessment, as well as teaching.

The Instruction & First-Year Experience Librarian also will provide leadership and guidance to the library’s instruction program.  The incumbent should be passionate about student learning.  The Librarian will keep up-to-date with new trends in information literacy instruction, develop and implement innovative instruction techniques, and assist with plans for assessment and evaluation. The Librarian will also serve as the primary liaison to the university’s first-year students, working closely with faculty and the Office of First-Year Programming to provide high-quality services and library instruction.  Other responsibilities will include serving as the lead library instructor for core, first-year courses; providing traditional and electronic reference services; preparing research guides and tutorials; and serving as library liaison to a limited number of subject areas (with some related collection development activities).  The librarian will be expected to work as part of a team, and collaborate on library-wide projects and activities.  Collaborative work with colleagues at NYU New York, NYU Shanghai, and across NYU’s global network is an important job expectation.  Librarians at NYU participate in library and system-wide committees and professional activities outside of the university.

The work location is the Abu Dhabi campus on Saadiyat Island. Living and working in the United Arab Emirates presents an exciting and excellent professional environment, coupled with an abundance of cultural, educational, recreational and travel opportunities.

Required Qualifications:
• ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent graduate LIS degree
• Demonstrated familiarity with issues and current trends in information literacy
• Significant instructional experience in an academic setting, including knowledge of teaching methodologies and experience designing and implementing active learning activities
• Experience in reference services
• High degree of facility with technologies and systems in academic library and information services, instruction, and research services
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with departments outside the library
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate programs and/or services
• History of flexibility, creativity, and strong customer service commitment
• Demonstrated history of collegiality

Preferred:
• Experience working with first-year programs
• Experience in a research university library
• Experience working in a culturally-diverse environment
• Prior international experience
• Advanced degree in the arts or humanities
