[LIBJOBS] University Librarian, University of Manitoba

University Librarian

University of Manitoba

The University of Manitoba invites applications for the position of University Librarian. Western Canada's first university and Manitoba's largest and only medical-doctoral university, it is an energetic community of more than 29,000 students, 4,500 faculty and staff and over 60 buildings located near the arts, entertainment and professional sports of family-centered, urban Winnipeg.

The University Librarian is the academic and administrative leader of the University's library system (18 locations, nearly half a million items borrowed last year, 2.3 million volumes, subscriptions to over 3,900 print and 42,700 electronic serials, 348,000 electronic books and over 1.5 million microforms). With more than 200 full-time staff members and an annual budget of approximately $25.5 million, the University Librarian will manage, plan and develop the Libraries' services, budgets, programs and collections. He/she will provide the leadership and vision to help fulfill the University's academic mission, direct and develop staff, build on the Libraries' culture of collegiality and openness, and meet the challenges of the next generation of information access and services.

The successful candidate will hold a graduate level degree in Library and Information Science or a related field, combined with significant leadership experience in higher education library services. A clear vision for the role of the academic research library and the changing nature of information technology, services and resources is required, as is a demonstrated ability to represent the Libraries both internally and externally.
