The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invites applicants for the position of Head Librarian of the Thun Library at Penn State Berks. The Head Librarian is a member of the University Libraries faculty and is responsible for overall library administration and services at the Thun Library.  Duties include collection development, online and in-person reference and instruction services, management of library facilities and staff, coordination of information technology, outreach to the community, collaboration with University Libraries and campus administrators to meet strategic goals, assessment of library services, coordination of development activities with development officers of Penn State Berks and the University Libraries, and oversight of the library budget.  The Head Librarian should be student-centered and innovative, possess demonstrated leadership qualities, believe in open communication, and be interested in working collaboratively with the faculty and staff of the Thun Library, the University Libraries, and the Penn State Berks campus community.  As a tenure-track faculty member, the successful candidate is also expected to be active in research, scholarship, service, and outreach. 

Penn State Berks is located in suburban Reading, PA. Student enrollment at the campus is a mix of approximately 2800 full and part-time students, with just over 800 of those students residing in on-campus residence halls. The campus offers small classes and excellent support systems that enable students to reach their fullest potential. The small campus environment allows for a comprehensive learning experience with the high standards of a major research university. Penn State Berks offers 15 baccalaureate degree programs, 6 associate degree programs, 22 academic minors, and the first two years of course work for more than 160 Penn State majors that can be completed at other Penn State campuses.

Qualifications:  Required:  Masters in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent) and over 5 years of post-MLIS academic library experience. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, a participatory management style, and a strong commitment to service along with demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills.  Preferred: A deep familiarity with academic library trends and emerging technologies, demonstrated experience in managing budgets and strategic planning, along with the desire to lead the library in meeting its strategic goals, are highly desirable.   A second advanced degree is also preferred. 

Compensation and Rank:  Salary and rank commensurate with experience. Excellent fringe benefits include liberal vacation, excellent insurance, state or TIAA/CREF retirement options, and educational privileges.
