With a commitment to enhancing access to information resources, the Library has long been described as the intellectual heart of the campus. The Dean and University Librarian will provide effective leadership and commitment to advancing the research, teaching, and service missions of the Library and University, both on campus and in the state, as well as nationally and internationally.

This position serves as the Library’s chief administrative and academic officer with overall responsibility for overseeing collection development and management; library services; budget and planning; the application of emerging information technologies; personnel resources; fund raising; public relations; and state, regional, national, and international cooperative efforts. The Library is committed to maintaining the strongest collections and service programs possible, and to being actively engaged in research, development, and scholarly practice—all of which support the University’s missions of teaching, research and public engagement. The Library system comprises four primary library facilities, and a number of specialized libraries and facilities that are located both in the Main Library building and in buildings across campus. These include 26 service locations, several technical services departments that support acquisitions and collection management, metadata, digitization, and preservation; and several administrative units that support human resources, business, and information technology. The Library employs approximately 90 faculty members, and more than 300 academic professionals, staff, and graduate assistants. The current Library budget is approximately $42.25 million. Over the last ten years (2002 – 2012), the University Library strengthened enormously, raising over $29-million in philanthropic gifts and securing over $6 million in grants and sponsored research.
