Metadata and Catalog Librarian

 

Baylor seeks to fill the following faculty position within the Baylor University Central Libraries Division: Metadata and Catalog Librarian. The Division seeks a creative and service-oriented professional to support access to scholarly resources by providing metadata and associated authority control, quality control, and implementation of metadata standards, and to be responsible for the creation and maintenance of data related to both digital and print materials and works in close collaboration with the Digitization Projects Group. This position will also perform original and complex copy cataloging of web-based resources available through the Baylor library systems.  This is an academic professional position with faculty status.

 

Qualified candidates will possess a Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program, relevant practical experience with MARC and non-MARC metadata in a library environment, experience with XML-based standards such as Dublin Core, EAD, VRA Core, MODS, METS, and PREMIS, knowledge of current bibliographic standards, such as AACR2, LC classification, LCSH, and catalog management procedures/techniques, a working knowledge of OCLC cataloging utilities, local integrated online library systems, and digital management systems. Desired qualifications include experience with XSLT language, knowledge of RDA and FRBR/FRAD, experience with DSpace and CONTENTdm, a working knowledge of a foreign language (modern European language preferred), familiarity with archival practices and digitization workflow, knowledge of Semantic Web and linked data, and recent professional or paraprofessional experience in an academic institution.
