Digital Learning Initiatives Librarian - (2 Positions)
Department: Library Reference & Instructional Services Effective Date of Appointment: July 1, 2012 (Subject to Budgetary Approval)
Rank: Senior Assistant or Associate Librarian Salary: Minimum salary of $57,084 for Senior Assistant or $65,628 for Associate Librarian, and an excellent benefits package. Salary and rank are dependent on qualifications and experience. This is a 12-month tenure-track position.
Required Qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited Library/Information Science program or its equivalent degree if earned from outside the U.S. or Canada. Knowledge of current library instructional trends and technology; experience integrating information literacy concepts and standards into academic coursework; experience in implementing online learning technologies and utilizing social networking/web 2.0 tools in an educational context; outstanding teaching skills; experience applying assessment methods to evaluate student learning; experience providing both in-person and digital reference services; knowledge of traditional and electronic reference sources; excellent interpersonal, analytical, oral, and written communication and decision-making skills; ability to adapt well to change and to be flexible; demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively with colleagues, faculty and staff in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment; ability and commitment to working in a diverse campus community; capability and commitment to engage in research and continued professional development worthy of promotion and tenure as a faculty member in the California State University system.

At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to create and deploy digital learning objects that support current instructional programming; demonstrated experience in providing instructional design solutions within a learning management system such as Moodle; demonstrated familiarity with the development of online instructional modules using content management system such as Drupal; demonstrated ability to effect change in a challenging and complex information environment; knowledge of and/or experience with current issues in academic libraries, information technology and higher education; demonstrated competency working with Windows applications including MS Office Word, Excel, Access, video/screen capture technology, and other Internet applications; ability to learn new software applications; demonstrated background or experience to serve, as needed, in a range of library assignments, which may include subject liaison roles and instructional team assignments within disciplines such as business and education.
Responsibilities: The Digital Learning Initiatives Librarian works in partnership with library and teaching faculty to apply learning theories and technology to develop, implement, and maintain general and course-specific online learning objects, instructional modules, and other library instruction materials. The librarian facilitates the integration and use of these materials in course management systems and other online environments; and ensures compliance with ADA guidelines and higher education accreditation standards. The successful candidate maintains a deep knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in academic libraries in the areas of online reference services, instructional technologies, and outreach services in order to effectively identify and cultivate relevant initiatives for local implementation. The librarian develops and delivers online and in-person instruction sessions using current approaches to learning, teaching and information literacy theory and appropriate technology. The successful candidate will join existing library faculty members in efforts to explore new technologies that support online teaching, allow for the mobile marketing of library services, and enhance the library’s social media presence. The librarian assists in the identification of the information needs of students, and in the assessment of the effectiveness of online learning objects and other library instructional materials designed to improve student learning. The successful candidate may serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments. Scheduled hours at the reference desk are required, including some evening and weekend work.
