Collection Development & Public Services Librarian

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD)

                          

The NYUAD Library seeks candidates with flexibility, creativity, and a strong customer service commitment to serve in a combined role as Collection Development and Public Services Librarian.  Work location is Abu Dhabi campus library downtown location, interim to the completion of the permanent campus on Saadiyat Island. The starting date is negotiable between January and May of 2010.

 

Reporting to the Library Director, duties include:  Planning, design and provision of collection development services and public access services in the NYUAD Library.  Includes the production and revision of library guides; provide individual and group instruction and orientation; serve as a liaison to faculty and students; manage content of library web pages; contribute to the library’s public relations efforts; serve as liaison to Collections Management, Reference/Public Services and other departments in the Division of Libraries in New York; provide collection development for general circulating collections in all formats; assist Library Director in creating collection development policy and procedures; work with faculty members and students on integrating electronic resources into teaching and research; respond to reference questions; deliver library instruction in traditional and technology-based modes, participate in library and institutional committees and other activities as appropriate.  Candidate is expected to have the ability to use a full range of text and electronic resources in areas related to the NYUAD curriculum.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS or accepted international equivalent.  Second subject Master’s degree preferred but not required.  Background in subject matter relevant to the curriculum required; familiarity with current trends in pedagogy, electronic resources and  databases. Demonstrated experience in an academic library, including collection development, bibliographic instruction and reference work in an academic library. Recent graduates with the required qualifications will be considered.  Awareness of cross-disciplinary issues in academic libraries. Excellent  English language communication and interpersonal skills necessary. Knowledge of a language other than English preferred, but not required.  Ability to work collegially within a small unit that is flexible and extremely responsive to patrons.
