The NYUAD Library seeks candidates with flexibility, creativity, and vision to lead innovation in academic and library technology to support teaching, learning and research.  Work location is the NYU Abu Dhabi campus library downtown location, interim to the completion of the permanent campus on Saadiyat Island.  Some travel between the United Arab Emirates and New York for purposes of coordination with NYUNY library staff and service providers will be required.

Reporting to the Library Director, the duties include: Planning, design, and project coordination for the Aleph integrated library system currently hosted by NYU-NY; management of services and facilities that support the creation and interoperation of digital content to support teaching, learning and scholarship (text, audio, video, learning objects, publications, etc.).  Create and manage advanced digitization services for access to scholarly materials.  The Assoc. Director will manage librarians and technical staff responsible for the operation and support for a broad spectrum of digital and media technology for the library and classrooms.  This senior position will share responsibility with the Library Director for managing a technology budget designed to allow recruitment of excellent staff and for the acquisition and implementation of state-of-the-art solutions for the emerging 21st Century academic library.    

The successful candidate will share in the general direction and management of the library, and will be instrumental in shaping the development of innovative library and technology services for a prominent new campus of NYU focused on liberal arts, sciences, engineering, and advanced research across fields of study uniquely adapted to today’s world.

QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS or recognized international equivalent.  Extensive technology management experience with specific responsibilities for academic libraries may substitute for the MLS. Second subject Master’s degree preferred but not required.  Minimum seven years experience as a library professional, with significant experience in library, academic or instructional technology is required.  A strong level of technical expertise in technologies related to library systems or existing academic technologies such as social networking, web services, or instructional design is strongly preferred. Understanding of existing and emerging technologies utilized in academic libraries and higher education to support teaching and learning in the 21st century. Excellent English language communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. Knowledge of a language other than English is helpful, but not required.  Ability to effectively direct and work collegially within an organization that is flexible and extremely responsive to the needs of users.  

The NYUAD Library is rapidly developing to support the research and curricular needs of the new, highly selective liberal arts and science college that will become the second major hub of New York University’s Global Network University.  The library will contain over 100,000 volumes in print, develop to nearly 70 staff and provide superior access to the most complete offering of electronic journals and digital resources available.  Links for additional information:  http://nyuad.nyu.edu  http://www.saadiyat.ae/en/  http://www.visitabudhabi.ae/en/   http://www.thenational.ae/
