Instructional Coordinator/Staff Trainer, Main Library
Full-Time
SUMMARY: Under administrative supervision, this is responsible professional library work, which involves the application of professional library techniques and procedures as well as specialized knowledge of computers, hardware, software, databases and instructional methods to provide instruction and curriculum to library users and staff. Performs related and other work as required.
REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Attainment of B.A. or B.S. from an accredited university/college in Computer Science/Technology, Education, or other directly related field plus at least two years of paid, full-time directly related professional experience OR attainment of graduate degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited university plus at least one year of paid, full-time professional (post-MLS) directly applicable library/computer experience. Course work in library user education, computer fundamentals in information management, microcomputer systems, electronic information services, or similar topics is highly desirable.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Significant knowledge of: (1) professional library principles, practices and procedures; (2) public library functions, facilities, and operations; (3) patrons needs and library services to meet those needs; (4) web page development; (5) Windows and Microsoft Office software; (6) the development, coordination and assessment of instructional programs and curriculum; (7) current theory, practices and issues related to library user education.
Demonstrated ability to: (1) handle both routine operations and long-range planning; (2) establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; (3) supervise, train, and evaluate support staff, if assigned; (4) communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to groups and individuals.
Demonstrated skill in training and Internet searching.
GENERAL DUTIES
< Provides leadership, direction and planning required for creative, effective and coordinated staff and library user education programs.
< Responsible for coordination of on-boarding of all new employees, in coordination with other library departments including Human Resources, Public Services and Technical Services.
< Develops and presents training sessions for staff and library users in the use of the library’s electronic resources; presents training sessions to groups as requested.
< Develops and presents training sessions to staff for staff development purposes.
< Develops materials suited to both synchronous and asynchronous training activities.
< Keeps a calendar and statistics of training activities.
< Keeps abreast of all library operations in order to effectively train staff and patrons.
< Performs other necessary duties as required
PRESENT SCHEDULE [subject to change without notice]
Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Schedule may fluctuate due to training needs of staff and patrons and may include evening and weekend work on occasion.
