[LIBJOBS] Head, Partnerships- Central Library, Qatar Foundation - Doha, Qatar

The Qatar Foundation is establishing a state-of-the-art Central Library to serve the diverse information needs of the residents of the State of Qatar. The Central Library, to be located in Education City, will take a leadership role in meeting Qatar Foundation’s goals to become Qatar's premier information resource for the academic, research and public community. It will serve the general public, universities, schools, research institutes and Education City partners. The Central Library will offer a suite of services and programs to support education and research through comprehensive print and digital collections.


The Central Library seeks dynamic, innovative, service-oriented and culturally sensitive applicants for the position of: Head, Partnerships.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible to lead, oversee and coordinate the partnerships established between the Qatar Foundation and libraries, archives or other entities, nationally and internationally, to create digital archives on the history and culture of Qatar, the Gulf and the Arab world.
This position provides guidance and assessment on the development of the partnerships.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Advise on partnership developments and assess proposed new partnership initiatives;

·         Provide leadership within the region through organizing meetings and international visits for digital archives projects & WDL Arab Peninsula Regional Group;

·         Contribute to the development of international programs such as the World Digital Library Program and the Gulf Archive Project to promote Arab and Islamic heritage;

·         Plan, coordinate and oversee the projects in liaison with the Associate Director of Special Collections & Archives, the Associate Director for Library Information Technology, the Associate Director for Technical Services and other partner institutions;

·         Collaborate with staff at the partner institutions to manage these collaborative projects effectively and within budget;

·         Contribute to Central Library’s overall Business & Strategic Planning activities;

·         Collaborate with representatives from cultural, school and university organizations in Qatar to design and add content to the digital archive databases;

·         Contribute to the field by publishing, presenting or participating in professional organizations;

·         Participate in team work and adhoc committees as needed.

REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Masters Degree in Library and Information Science accredited by the American Library Association or other internationally recognized library qualifications. Candidates with a combination of relevant skills, experience and training that provides the required knowledge may be considered.

·         Additional  Master’s degree in relevant area is desirable

·         At least 8 years experience in academic and research library environment

·         Demonstrated record in planning and managing multiple projects concurrently and effectively within budget

·         Understanding of digital conversion principles to support the creation of database archives

·         Proven record of team leadership with strong supervisory skills

·         Ability to direct the work, coach and mentor less experienced project staff

·         Demonstrated skills in diplomacy and negotiation in a multi-cultural environment

·         Strong strategic thinking and problem solving skills

·         Flexibility for changing needs, priorities and responsibilities is essential

·         Experience working in a multi-cultural environment preferred
