Tisch Library Technical Services seeks an innovative, collaborative, service-oriented librarian to be part of a team that manages all phases of electronic resources for the Libraries, from evaluation and setup through implementation and ongoing maintenance. The libraries have created a shared service model for managing electronic resources and the successful candidate will help shape the model going forward. He/She will also help drive the development and growth of metadata services in Tisch Library in support of digital scholarship at the University.

 

The Electronic Resources and Metadata Services Librarian’s responsibilities include providing effective management of electronic resources purchased by the Libraries; providing leadership in developing, recommending, documenting and implementing policies and procedures that promote best practices for management and access, resolving data-related problems, acting as a resource within and beyond the department for electronic resources management; managing metadata for electronic resources using various library resource management applications including Millennium’s III ERM module, Serials Solutions management tools, and local databases; providing oversight for electronic resources maintenance projects, including a comprehensive review of the information maintained in the library’s Electronic Resources Management (ERM) system.

 

The successful candidate will ideally have experience with non-MARC metadata standards such as Dublin Core or MODS, and will have familiarity with markup languages such as HTML5 and XML, and XML editing software such as Oxygen. Preferred qualifications also include knowledge of a foreign language, experience with the Millennium Integrated Library System (ILS); knowledge of established and emerging national and international standards relating to metadata and classification.

Youth Services Librarian – 20 to 40 hours per week

 

The Position:

Under direction of Youth Services Librarian and in cooperation with Library Technicians:

Provide excellent customer service from the children’s reference desk at the Central Library: Welcome families to the children’s area and facilitate safe behavior; Use Library catalog and other online tools to locate materials for children and teens to support recreational reading, homework and/or research assignments; Respond to inquiries from the public.

 

Coordinate and assist with a wide variety of Library programming for children in collaboration with youth services staff, including: Early literacy programs, traditional and bilingual storytimes, school tours, Summer Reading Program, Family events, Homework Help and Family Literacy. Propose new programming in response to community aspirations and in collaboration with youth staff. Offer solutions when youth programming needs additional resources or affects Youth Outreach, Reference or Patron Services Department procedures.

 

Coordinate promotion of library services and resources through print and visual/audio media, social media and the Library website; prepare informational handouts for public distribution including calendars and flyers.

Assist with collection development for youth: Suggest titles for purchase using professional journals and relying on patron suggestions and popular media; identify underused sections of the collection and strategize ways to highlight them with finding guides or displays; assist with weeding based on circulation reports and knowledge of current school and recreational expectations.

 

Attend and participate in professional group meetings and workshops; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of library services for children, teens and families. Apply this knowledge when developing or enhancing services in collaboration with staff who work with youth throughout the Library System.

 

May assist in supervising and coordinating volunteers and hourly staff; assist in the training of professional and non-professional staff.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

 

Ability to:

• Work in collaboration with a variety of library staff and community members

• Understand and follow oral and written instructions

• Communicate clearly and concisely orally, in writing, and using current word processing, email, and graphic publishing computer software

• Collect and maintain program statistics using spreadsheets

• Assist in program evaluation

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

 

Skills and Experience:

Excellent customer service skills and strong organizational abilities are a must; prior experience with children in an educational and/or professional library setting is preferred; bilingual in Spanish & English highly desirable.

 

Training: Equivalent to a Masters degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in library science or a related field.

 

Environmental Conditions:

Library environment; work closely with the public; work with computer and office equipment.

 

Physical Standards:

Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting or standing for extended periods of time; requires some bending and lift up to of 25 pounds.

 

Schedule and Compensation:

$24.89 per hour

 

20 hours:

Tuesdays & Thursdays 9am-5pm, Fridays 8:30am-2:30pm

 

Up to 40 hours starting in mid-January:

Schedule may include weekends and evenings

Position:

Princeton University Library seeks an energetic and forward-thinking library professional to lead the Engineering Library -- a state-of-the-art facility and focal point of the Friend Center for Engineering Education, and a key service provider for the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The Engineering Librarian serves as the head of the Engineering Library, bearing primary responsibility for all aspects of the administration of the library and supervision of a team of five library assistants.

The Architecture & Planning Library is located in historic Battle Hall. Services and collections support the research and teaching of the School of Architecture, including Architecture, Architectural History, Community & Regional Planning, Historic Preservation, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Sustainable Design, Urban Design, and related disciplines.

 

The Architecture & Planning Library includes Special Collections of rare and unique publications, and is home to the Alexander Architectural Archive. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to build partnerships with the School of Architecture and across campus as well as taking a leadership role in related professional organizations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage and lead library-related operations including supervision and staffing. With head of archives, co-manage areas of shared decision-making including strategic planning, administrative reporting, budgeting, facilities, liaison, stewardship, development, outreach, and special projects. Provide reference and instruction services in subject areas directly relevant to the programs offered at the School of Architecture. Work closely with donors supporting the library. Collection management and development of architecture and planning materials, including gifts and special collections of rare and unique publications. Participate in Fine Arts and Humanities Subject Team, School of Architecture Library and Collections Committee, and related digital scholarship and curation groups. Supervise classified circulation services staff and special projects staff. Represent UT Libraries in national and international library forums.

 

LIBRARIAN II REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program. Proven experience providing library public services in an academic context. Proven successful management of unit and/or project management and supervising with demonstrated ability to establish and meet goals. Subject knowledge in one or more relevant subjects to the School of Architecture, as demonstrated through academic degrees, course work, publications or job experience. Demonstrated reference, instruction, and/or collection development experience in one or more relevant subjects to the School of Architecture. Must have strong service orientation with a demonstrated commitment to public and customer service. Able to work cooperatively and collaboratively. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Professional initiative, including membership and participation in relevant professional organizations. Familiar with Spanish and or Western European languages. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

 

LIBRARIAN II PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Advanced second degree in architecture or related discipline. Experience in and/or coursework relevant to serving the research and learning needs of architecture and or planning students and faculty. Liaison experience within an educational environment and workplace. Resource development experience including donor relations, outreach and public engagement activities. Demonstrated excellent presentation skills. Demonstrated activity in digital humanities.

 

LIBRARIAN III REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program. Demonstrated expertise in architecture and/or planning librarianship. Proven experience providing library public services in an academic context. Proven successful management of unit, project management, and supervising with demonstrated ability to establish and meet goals. Subject knowledge in one or more relevant subjects to the School of Architecture, as demonstrated through academic degrees, course work, publications, or job experience. Demonstrated reference and instruction experience. Experience building and sustaining research collections in all formats, including rare and or unique publications in relevant subject areas. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in the above disciplines and associated resources and information technologies. Liaison experience with a demonstrated commitment to public and customer service. Able to work cooperatively and collaboratively. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Professional initiative, including membership and participation in relevant professional organizations. Familiar with Spanish and or Western European languages. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Salary and Benefits:  Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. No state or local income tax. Standard state benefits package including annual vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, retirement plans, and health insurance (comprehensive major medical plans, dental, vision, life, and disability). Deferred compensation and tax sheltered annuity programs also available.  Working hours for the position are typically, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm or as arranged for a total of 40 hours per week.

The purpose of this position is to support the University's information literacy initiatives and to ensure the availability of Library resources. As such, the position is responsible for: creating of information literacy tutorials; promoting of information literacy within the university; working with faculty, course development teams and learning designers to integrate information literacy into the curriculum; providing reference and instruction services in a backup capacity; managing authority control activities to ensure that resources are easily discoverable; maintaining and updating the Library's web catalogue interface; and original cataloging of new Library resources, with a focus on media resources.


The position reports to the Head, Technical Services and Systems and works closely with the Head, Information Literacy and Public Services. The incumbent backs up the Head, Technical Services and Systems when needed.
