Director of the Biomedical Libraries
Dartmouth College Library seeks a forward-thinking, innovative individual with a strong service ethic to plan, organize, manage, and provide strategic leadership for, the activities of the Dana Biomedical Library and the Matthews-Fuller Health Sciences Library, in service to the Department of Biological Sciences, the Dartmouth Medical School, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock health care system, the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, and the new Dartmouth Center for Health Care Delivery Science. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Director of the Biomedical Libraries will articulate and promote a vision for the Biomedical Libraries and will ensure successful delivery and evaluation of innovative programs, services, and resources. The Director will communicate and collaborate with staff, students, faculty, and leadership of the various constituent groups across the institution and externally to establish goals and priorities. S/he will oversee the management of current facilities and will be instrumental in the development of a new on-campus facility which will house the Dana Biomedical Library. In addition, the Director will participate on applicable teams and committees, and is a member of the Library Management Group, the management team for Dartmouth’s library system. Under the dynamic leadership of Dartmouth’s President, Jim Yong Kim, M.D., Ph.D., there is much interest and excitement related to developing health-care related programs on campus and well beyond.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS or another applicable graduate degree, seven years of experience in an academic health or life sciences library with five years of progressively higher administration responsibilities, and certification from the Academy of Health Information Professionals is preferred. The successful candidate will have proven leadership, management, and interpersonal skills which encourage teamwork, collaboration, and relationship building; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to cultivate a strong service ethic; demonstrated capacity to foster and manage change in a fast-paced environment; strong problem solving skills, demonstrated creativity and flexibility; experience in managing large budgets; the ability to gather and analyze data, and prepare reports and presentations; and has experience with grant writing and development (preferred).
RANK AND SALARY: The position is part of the Librarian Classification System of Professional Ranks. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Full benefits package including 22 vacation days; comprehensive health care; retirement plans, including TIAA-CREF; and relocation assistance.
