Interim Director

Union County Carnegie Library

The Union County Carnegie Library is searching for a fully engaged, energetic, service-oriented leader to oversee library services for the Union Library and bookmobile for the next nine months. Under the direction of the Board of Trustees, the Interim Library Director performs professional administrative duties that include supervising and daily operation of the library. The Interim Director is expected to take a leading role with staff and with the Board. Placing patrons (Adults, Teens and Children) at the center of all services and working well with a diverse population is essential.  Hiring range:  $45,000-$50,000.

 

Summary of job responsibilities

• Manages daily library operations
• Oversees budget and expenditures including contractual services and library materials.
• Oversees personnel including providing regular training opportunities, conducting staff meetings, overseeing disciplinary actions as well as training and supervising volunteers as needed.
• Provides data as requested to the Board regarding policies or programs.
• Oversees any library public relations or communications including the website and printed materials.
• Assists patrons in the use of print and electronic materials, equipment and technologies. Works with staff to provide reference services, with additional responsibilities for interlibrary loan and circulation.
• Assures that excellent customer service is being provided by the library to the citizens of Union County.
• Performs other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.

Minimum qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of progressively responsible administrative experience, including a broad background in management, administration, operations and finance. Knowledge of public library services and operation and of library collections. Preferred qualification is a Master of Library Science or related Master’s degree (management, education).

 

The Board may decide to extend the position to a permanent position upon completion of the nine month interim period.
