Systems Librarian
Tenure Track Position
Concordia University Libraries seeks an innovative, dynamic and skilled librarian for the tenure-track position of Systems Librarian.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Associate University Librarian, Information Systems and Technology and as part of the Libraries’ Systems and Technology team, the Systems Librarian actively participates in the planning, development and management of the Libraries suite of information systems and applications. The incumbent assesses, recommends and implements current and new technologies that enhance the Libraries’ ability to support students and faculty in their research, teaching and learning activities at the University.
Main Responsibilities:
Within a team environment, develop, implement, manage and support the Libraries’ suite of information systems, including the III Millennium Integrated Library System, link resolvers, e-resources discovery systems, authentication systems and the VDX interlibrary loan management system.
Play a key role in the development and maintenance of the WebPAC.
Research, assess and implement current and new technologies to support or enhance library services.
Develop, implement, troubleshoot and manage authentication systems for library systems and for integration of library services with other campus and external systems.
In collaboration with other library staff, participate in the diagnosis, troubleshooting and resolution of e-resources access problems.
Work collaboratively with systems analysts, technicians and other library staff in the design and development of the Libraries’ client computers.
Develop and deliver instruction and skills development sessions to staff on systems features and software applications.
Essential Qualifications:
Graduate degree from a library school accredited by the American Library Association, or approved equivalent education and training acceptable for membership in the Corporation of Professional Librarians of Quebec and a minimum of two (2) years experience with library systems and technologies or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge of current trends and issues in library systems and in information technology, and demonstrated skills in managing and developing systems.
Familiarity with authentication systems and issues surrounding authentication in libraries.
Knowledge of e-resources management systems and link resolvers.
Experience with XHTML/CSS, XML and MARC. Experience with JavaScript or another programming language an asset.
Strong analytical, technical and troubleshooting skills for complex applications.
Strong leadership abilities, communication and interpersonal skills to manage projects, work with teams, provide application training and liaise with vendors.
Demonstrated project management & organizational skills; ability to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently.
Oral and written fluency in English is essential. Good conversational French is an asset.

Future plans include the migration of the Libraries’ website to a state of the art University CMS system. The Libraries’ Information Systems and Technology unit is currently composed of two systems analysts, four librarians, four technicians and one programmer. The unit maintains a wide array of hardware and applications software for both staff and student use. Salary and Benefits:
Compensation and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position includes a competitive and comprehensive benefit package.
Librarians are members of the Concordia University Faculty Association (CUFA). Responsibilities include research, publication and service to meet requirements for tenure and promotion.
Appointment will commence immediately or at a date to be negotiated.
