Job Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Clinical Planning Consultant for Library Services, The Clinical Planning Consultant - Library (Children's Services) provides direct information support for clinicians involved in planning patient care services; performing searches, facilitating clinical teams to keep up to date with current awareness of evidence-based studies, training library users in effective searching, and evaluating new information technologies and resources for addition to the library collections.  Above all, he/she ensures that quality library services are provided in an efficient, safe and culturally competent manner, consistent with the unit's standards.

Key Accountabilities:
  1. Develop and finalize area specific clinical information services for Children's Services which covers pediatric clinical teams to ensure library service activation.
  2. Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures in assigned library service area(s) to outline how clinical librarians will interact operationally with Sidra clinical teams (e.g. grand rounds /morning report attendance, etc.).
  3. Proactively provide customized information services to clinical project staff by performing mediated searches and keeping clinical teams up to date with current awareness of evidence-based studies related to the planning and commissioning of Sidra clinical units; in addition to providing information to support continuing education for Sidra clinical staff.
  4. Validate and update clinical library collections lists for relevant specialty clinical areas inclusive of research initiatives.
  5. Develop content and author library components of curriculum for both the corporate and clinical orientation programs inclusive of collaborating on the development of assessment tools to classify competencies and place clinical staff within novice to expert ranges in respect to info skills.
  6. Select library resources appropriate for the support of the organization's vision, mission and guiding principles. 
  7. Provide orientation to all clinical staff during on-boarding on the effective use of library resources.
  8. Accountable for the efficiency and quality of clinical information services provided and for professional practice in accordance with Sidra policies and procedures
  9. Work under the general guidance of the Senior Clinical Planning Consultant - Library Services.
  10. Report unit activities, progress and potential problems to the Senior Clinical Planning Consultant - Library Services.
  11. In view of the developing and changing needs and opportunities within Sidra during this start-up phase, this position may perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
ESSENTIAL
  • Master's degree in library and/or information studies from an ALA accredited institution.
  • 5 years of professional library experience, including at least 2 years within a medical/life sciences library.
  • Demonstrated familiarity (knowledge and skills) with current technology related to information services.
  • Expert searching skills: experience searching PubMed, CINAHL and evidence-based practice resources.
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in teaching, and the integration of technology into teaching and providing library services.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing and delivering library instructions; strong group presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of library users - faculty, researchers, clinicians, students (from affiliated institutions), administrators and staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Experience in organizing data and generating thorough, accurate and timely reports.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the use of all resources.
  • Seeks opportunities to enable lifelong learning, through participating in educational activities appropriate to the area of specialization; maintaining required level of competence and professional portfolio.
DESIRABLE
  • International work experience.
  • Understanding of and enthusiasm for translational medicine and evidence-based practice.
  • Experience meeting the information needs of clinicians.
  • Experience with mobile applications, relevant to health sciences and information services.
  • Interest in contributing to the profession via research, publication, presentation and service (within associations).
  • Effective planning and organizing with the ability to exercise discretion, attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Initiative and flexibility to adapt and work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Acts as a role model; participates in orientation of new staff on the unit.
  • Conceptual understanding of electronic patient records.
  • Promotes a positive work environment as evidenced by working collaboratively and demonstrating a professional and supportive attitude toward others.
