Ross University is a provider of medical and veterinary education, offering doctor of medicine and doctor of veterinary medicine degree programs. Founded in 1982 and located in St. Kitts in the Caribbean, the School of Veterinary Medicine is affiliated with 22 AVMA-accredited US veterinary schools where students complete their clinical year and the University is fully accredited by the AVMA. Reporting to the Director of Learning Resources the Library Director is responsible for operations of the library at the Medical School in St. Kitts. Additional responsibility include ensuring the goals and objectives of the library are in line with the goals of the institution as it relates to the faculty and students needs and advanced technology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Align the library mission and goals with those of the institution and provide the leadership, planning, development and evaluation of library services in support of those goals.
- Develop the library’s collection of books, journals and online resources to meet the academic and research needs of both students and faculty.
- Administrate the library’s annual budget and monitor expenditures.
- Manage library services, resources and personnel.
- Mange library journal and online database subscriptions, including renewals, inventories and vendors.
- Participate in strategic planning, developing new initiatives and setting priorities.
- Serve as an advocate and subject matter expert for the library and health sciences librarianship and advance the profession through engagement with appropriate organizations and societies, including other Ross University and DeVry Inc. libraries.
- Facilitate an increasing adoption of electronic resources.
- Provision of library instruction: Instruct faculty and students in research and evidence based medicine, the hierarchy of research and how to use and evaluate information.
- Work with academic deans to design library research assignments in support of the curriculum
- Minimum of 7 years experience working with vendors, publishers, integrated library systems, and interlibrary loan systems as well as at least 7 years experience managing electronic resources, cataloging and digital libraries and working with other libraries and universities to locate references from scientific literature.
- Experience of managing library staff
- Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program
