Concordia University Libraries seeks a service-minded and innovative librarian for the newly created tenure-track position of Reference & Subject Librarian (Government Publications). The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that government publications are acquired, organized, and made accessible to support teaching, research and scholarship. He/She will provide reference and instruction for government publications use. The incumbent will be responsible for liaison, reference, and collection development for assigned department(s) or subject area(s). He/She will participate in general reference and instructional activities.
The Reference & Subject Librarian (Government Publications) reports to the Director, Webster Library.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts regular assessments and evaluations to ensure that the collection development and management of government publications, both print and digital, are responsive to the needs of students and researchers.
- Ensures appropriate access to government publications within the Library’s collections. Works with Collection Services to ensure appropriate cataloguing, processing and development of effective digital access to government publications.
- Serves as designated coordinator for Concordia's engagement in the Government of Canada's Depository Services Program, and advocates for governmental policy to provide access to government publications and information.
- In collaboration with colleagues, works to ensure availability and accessibility of government statistics and other government data.
- Provides training in information competencies to users, staff and librarians to promote and ensure effective use of government publications.
- For assigned subject or department, is responsible for liaison, reference, instruction and collection development in consultation with faculty, other subject librarians and the Associate University Librarian, Collection Services, as required.
- Liaises with University departments and external agencies as needed.
- Prepares and maintains guides and library web resources, in areas of subject responsibility.
- Participates in general reference, instructional activities and teaching assignments.
- Trains support staff and coordinates their work, as required.
- Engages in research activities and professional development in areas of specialization.
- Undertakes or assists with special projects or temporary assignments as required.
Requirements
- Graduate degree from a library school accredited by the American Library Association, or approved equivalent education and training acceptable for membership in the Corporation of Professional Librarians of Québec.
- Experience or knowledge in the management of government publications in libraries.
- Education in Political Science or related area is a strong asset.
- Ability to organize and conduct presentations and instructional activities and to teach effectively.
- Knowledge of collection development issues and practices in academic libraries.
- Ability to plan and organize work, including project management experience.
- Initiative and leadership skills and a willingness to collaborate and share expertise.
- Creative problem solving skills, curiosity, flexibility, strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Aptitude for service-oriented work.
- Ability to interact effectively with a broad variety of people within the library and with peers from other institutions on collaborative initiatives.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Oral and written fluency in English is essential. Oral fluency in French and basic written French is a strong asset.

Salary and Benefits
Compensation and rank are commensurate with experience. The position includes a competitive and comprehensive benefit package.
Librarians are members of the Concordia University Faculty Association (CUFA). Responsibilities include research, publication and service to meet requirements for tenure and promotion.
Appointment will commence immediately or at date to be negotiated.
