The Allen County Public Library is seeking a creative and talented librarian to take on the role of Assistant Manager in Children’s Services at our Main Library.
Responsibilities
Assists customers in finding resources. Provides bibliographic instruction, guidance on how to use the catalog, on-line and database services, as well as readers’ advisory and reference services.
• Plans and implements research-based programming, including literacy/pre-literacy activities, STEAM/STEM activities, and programming for adults.
• Responsible for efficient and effective department function in the absence of the manager.
• Conducts Main Library tours for groups, pre-school age through adult.
• Assembles “custom collections” for classrooms and individuals
• Performs appropriate outreach, programs, and storytelling, as a representative of ACPL, at schools, preschools, child care centers, and community organizations.
• Assists manager in training and supervision of staff.
• Actively participates in committee responsibilities at a system level.
• Participates in collection development for the department, recommendation of new materials for acquisition, and deselection of old materials.
• Under general direction of department manager, oversees development and maintenance of Early Learning Center and trains staff in its use.
Required Qualifications
· Master’s Degree Required, Field of Study: Library Science from a school accredited by the American Library Association
· 3 plus years of experience with children and juvenile literature gained through appropriate course work and experience.
· Familiarity with automated systems, Internet, social media and a variety of computer programs.
· Must apply for and maintain Indiana Librarian Certification, earning 75 LEU (Library Education Units) within five years.
· Extensive knowledge of children’s literature and current issues and trends in library services to children.
· Knowledge of early literacy fundamentals and appropriate developmental needs of children from birth through age eleven
· Genuine affection for and understanding of children
Compensation
