Position Overview

Salve Regina University invites applications for the position of Director of Library Services. Reporting to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director will hold a position on the academic leadership team. The Director will lead McKillop Library's team of professionals and support staff, known for their dedication to the Mercy tradition of service to the community. The Director will coordinate all aspects of library services for all undergraduate and graduate students in all locations and modalities: on campus in both Newport and Warwick, and in an online environment. The successful candidate will be a collegial and collaborative leader who will be responsible for the role of the library both within the University community and with external partners.

About McKillop Library

The McKillop Library supports and promotes research, teaching, and learning at Salve Regina University. The library's collection includes 150,000 print volumes, 150,000 electronic books, 57,000 electronic publications, and access to 50 research databases. McKillop Library is a member of the HELIN Consortium. The library staff is composed of professional librarians, full-time and part-time staff, and is one of the University's largest employers of work-study students. In collaboration with academic departments, library services include an active information literacy instruction program. Demonstrating its commitment to the University strategic imperative of student transformation, the library's Learning Commons is a bustling hub of faculty, student, and staff activity. To further the culture of active collaborative learning, the library works to develop relationships with other academic support services including, but not limited to, the Academic Center for Excellence, Academic Technology (within the auspices of Information Technology), and the Center for Teaching and Learning.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide effective management of all library functions
Recruit and develop library staff
Ensure adherence to library policies and procedures; amend these as necessary
Use the University mission as a guidepost to develop, formulate, and implement long-range plans related to library services
Utilize best practices and forward-thinking to be a leader in the field
Ensure that all library staff play an active role in professional organizations and conferences
Supervise the development, evaluation, and maintenance of the library's print and electronic collections
Collaborate with staff to regularly assess and evaluate services and resources
Assist faculty, individually and collectively, by supporting instruction, research, and program accreditation efforts
Be an active participant in the institutional accreditation process
Support research needs and demonstrate the importance of information literacy and research skills to all members of the University community
Develop and enhance partnerships across campus, as well as in the greater community
Advocate for local needs as the library's representative on the HELIN Consortium's Board of Directors
Prepare the annual budget request and manage the budget over the fiscal year
Work with the Office of University Grants to seek opportunities for external funding
Solicit and consider student input in determining services and necessary resources

Qualifications/Preferred Knowledge and Skills

Master's Degree in Library and Information science from an ALA-accredited program
Progressively responsible library management experience in a higher education setting
Knowledge of emerging trends in library services with an understanding of the role of the academic library in a digital environment
Strong commitment to service, consistent with the University mission
Experience with fiscal management
Experience with grant writing
Demonstrated effective management skills, with an emphasis on communication, collaboration, and team-building
