Technology Librarian
Salisbury University's (SU) Blackwell Library seeks an energetic, service-oriented Technology Librarian to partner with campus IT, system IT and others to assist in the development and management of user-focused technology-based systems (including digital initiatives across library units, the library web site and emerging technologies meeting the SU community’s information needs); provide staff support; and serve at the Research Help and the Access Services desks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Support digital and technical projects within library units;
* In conjunction with the Library Web Committee, design, develop, and support the main library web site and integrate it with the larger library web presence which includes discovery tools, digital collections, and electronic resources;
* Recommend emerging technologies and implement/support those approved (e.g. mobile apps)
* Serve as a liaison to campus and system IT; this may include serving on and representing the library on campus and/or system-wide committees and task forces;
* Support/troubleshoot daily operation of library hardware and software;
* Provide library staff support and training in basic software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office), virtual services, instructional technology, and basic web design
* Serve at the Research Help Desk and the Access Services Desk
* Perform other professional duties as assigned
The individual functioning in this capacity is expected to contribute to the University’s values of and commitment to student centeredness, academic excellence, and diversity. This position is part of the Access Services Department and reports to the Director of Public Services.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: M.L.S, M.L.I.S. or M.I.S. from an accredited library program; knowledge of hardware and software and the ability to troubleshoot them; demonstrated experience creating/maintaining web sites with relevant standards and technologies, including proficiency in HTML, XML, PHP, CSS, and Javascript; knowledge of relational databases using MS Access and/or SQL server and their use in the creation of dynamic web pages; ability to anticipate emerging technology trends and investigate their applications in academic libraries; strong analytical, problem solving skills; good listening, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines; aptitude for detail-oriented work; positive attitude, sense of humor, commitment to team work, and willingness to embrace change; flexibility and the ability to work independently also required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of two years of academic or research library experience is highly desirable; willingness to teach library instructional classes if needed; experience with ILS systems, particularly Aleph and SFX, MetaLib and ILLiad; knowledge of proxy server authentication; experience with using social media for enhancing and promoting library services and resources (Facebook, Twitter, MEEBO Chat, AskUsNow).
