Jackson-George Regional Library System (MS) is an innovative and accomplished Gulf Coast library system with outstanding levels of service and effective resource sharing. Headquartered in Pascagoula, MS, JGRLS is seeking an experienced Genealogy/Local History Library Manager to facilitate patron, staff, and community needs and skilled in focusing the efforts of a team of talented professionals. JGRLS is comprised of eight public libraries in two counties providing access to excellent library services for 160,000+ gulf coast residents. Compensation. The hiring salary range is $40,000 - $50,000 (placement being dependent on experience and qualifications) with an attractive benefits package, including ample paid leave.

Under general supervision of the Library System Director, the Genealogy/Local History Library Manager is responsible for the acquisition, maintenance, organization, and preservation of the library's local history collection. This collection includes books, maps, photographs, family histories, newspapers, and a growing digital collection. The Genealogy/Local History Library Manager will provide guidance and reference service for patrons of the local history and genealogy collections. They will provide on-site supervision of the Pascagoula Department of Genealogy and Local History. They will perform supervisory and professional work by coordinating all genealogy and local history activities including grant writing and management, public service, instruction, outreach, and exhibitions. They will also be responsible for the workflow and management of the digitization project by providing direction and leadership. They will hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate department staff members. They will serve as a consultant for genealogy collections throughout the library system.
The employee holding this position will, through open and continuous channels of communication with subordinates, colleagues, and superiors, complete all tasks necessary for the efficient and effective operation of the Pascagoula Department of Genealogy and Local History. Employees in this job classification are expected to possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to complete all assigned tasks in an efficient, accurate and timely manner.
This is a professional librarian position involving the application of professional knowledge and interpersonal and management skills and abilities. Work is performed in accordance with Regional Library Board of Trustees approved policies and procedures and other directives as issued by JGRLS regional board of trustees, library administration, assistant directors, and director.
Candidates for this position must (1) complete an application for employment, (2) complete a supplement application and (3) provide an official copy of graduate school transcript. Background checks will be conducted on all candidates selected for interviews.
The employee holding this position is subject to an initial nine-month probationary period. All performance evaluations during and after this probationary period are conducted by the director.
A. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited graduate school.
2. Archive management experience
3. Ability to work with electronic databases
4. Experience with digital and non-digital archival materials
B. PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
1. Graduate Certificate in Archives and Special Collections
2. Experience in the field of digitization, including knowledge of best practices for imaging, analog to digital conversion, and metadata skills
3. Ability to manage and maintain a digital collections repository
4. Experience with manuscript/photo conservation
