The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invite applicants for the position of Reference and Instruction Librarian at the Boscov-Lakin Information Commons & Thun Library, Penn State Berks. The campus library seeks a proactive, creative, and inventive librarian to fill a fixed-term multi-year faculty position as part of Penn State University Libraries. Duties of this position include working in a liaison role with the division of Science at Berks. Providing general reference and bibliographic instruction (both in person and virtual); developing research guides and instructional materials; developing library collections and promoting services to faculty and students. In addition to these duties, fixed term library faculty must remain current in librarianship through a variety of scholarly activities, and demonstrate service to the University and the profession.

REQUIREMENTS: Requires a MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent); experience with reference and bibliographic instruction; demonstrated knowledge of academic and library social media applications; strong knowledge of print and electronic information resources; excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Prefer at least one year of post MLS experience in an academic library setting. Some evening and/or weekend work is required.

Penn State Berks is located in suburban Reading, PA. Student enrollment at the campus is a mix of approximately 2900 full and part-time students, with just over 800 of those students residing in on-campus residence halls. The campus offers small classes and excellent support systems that enable students to reach their fullest potential. The small campus environment allows for a comprehensive learning experience with the high standards of a major research university. Penn State Berks offers 21 baccalaureate degree programs, 6 associate degree programs, 22 academic minors, and the first two years of coursework for more than 160 Penn State majors that can be completed at other Penn State campuses.

COMPENSATION AND RANK: Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits include liberal vacation, excellent insurance and health care coverage, state or TIAA/CREF retirement options, and educational privileges.  In addition, faculty in the University Libraries are afforded funds for professional development travel annually.  Faculty may be asked to travel as official representatives of the Libraries to certain events and those trips are reimbursed at full cost within limits established by the University.
