Digital Liberal Arts Postdoctoral Fellowship
Middlebury College, Vermont, USA
Middlebury College invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Digital Liberal Arts, from August 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017. We welcome candidates who hold, or will hold by July 2016, a PhD in any discipline relevant to the Digital Humanities. The Postdoctoral Fellow is a key position in the Digital Liberal Arts Initiative at Middlebury College. We are seeking a creative and technically skilled person to promote the use of digital technologies and resources for humanities research, teaching, and intellectual engagement. This will take the form of four connected activities: building awareness, building capacity, project support, and connecting with the larger community of Digital Humanities scholarship. The strongest candidates will be familiar with a variety of digital methods, extensive experience with collaborative digital scholarship, and awareness of issues at the intersection of digital scholarship and pedagogy. The Fellow will work closely with a team of faculty, library staff, and academic technologists to support the College’s vision for incorporating digital technologies in innovative, collaborative research. While the focus of the DLA initiative is on the promotion of collaborative projects in the humanities, the Postdoctoral Fellow will also be involved in exploring the potential for cross-fertilization across the boundaries of the humanities, social sciences, and physical and natural sciences.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be in residence in the Davis Family Library, under the supervision of the faculty Director of the DLA. The Fellow’s primary responsibilities will include consulting with faculty about digital projects, organizing and participating in digital training workshops, managing intra-college communications about the DLA, and following and reporting on trends in the Digital Humanities. In recognition of the importance of innovative scholarship for this position, 20 percent of the Fellow’s time will be allocated to their own research, writing, giving presentations, and related scholarly activities, with access to generous professional development resources.
