Background	-
Responsibility	The appointee will be responsible for the University Librarian and He/she is required to manage a combination of duties and expectations.  The Principal Librarian will be required to work as the in-charge librarian for a College library performing professional and administrative duties which include supervising and administrating all operations of the library. The Principal Librarian is also in a key position to help the Fiji National University Libraries define a completely new role for subject librarians — a role that will allow the Libraries to be more closely integrated in the whole educational and research process at the university. The Principal Librarian is also required to train and mentor junior staff and interns. In addition to these duties, Principal Librarian may be required to develop and/or teach different LIS related courses at various levels and conduct research in the field of library and information systems as per the University Academic Policies.
MQR	A Master's Degree in Library Science/  Information Science/Information Management with at least 4 years' post-qualification experience as a Librarian/ Assistant Librarian in an academic or research organisation or, a Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science with at least 6 years' post-qualification experience in an academic/research organisation as a Librarian/ Assistant Librarian.      Applicants with higher qualification & experience are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to the applicants, who have demonstrated ability to make a significant contribution to the LIS discipline through research and scholarship.
Salary	An attractive salary commensurate with qualifications and abilities would be negotiated with the successful applicant.
