Its holdings include more than 8 million printed volumes, 5 million manuscripts, 2 million non-print items, and extensive collections of digital text, data, and images. The Library employs a dedicated and knowledgeable staff of more than 300 professional and support staff working in a large central library, 9 specialized branches, and 3 storage facilities.
Position Summary: The Princeton University Library and the Sharmin and Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Iran and Persian Gulf Studies at Princeton University announce a one-year position at the rank of associate professional specialist. The successful candidate will be expected to study and provide detailed descriptions of over one thousand pre-Islamic coins of Central Asia in the Library's Numismatic Collection, including those in the newly-acquired Schaaf Collection of Sasanian coins. This work includes examination of coins, comparison with published descriptions when available, data entry in a specialized database, digital photography, sorting coins into trays and labeling. The position reports to the Library's Head of Technical Services for Special Collections.
Essential Qualifications: The position requires an advanced degree in a relevant subject area, advanced experience with the Persian language, preferably Middle Persian, and with Pahlavi script, and familiarity with the history and geography of the pre-Islamic Middle East.
