REFERENCE AND INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN

The Pennsylvania State University Libraries invite applicants for the position of Reference and Instruction Librarian at the Lee R. Glatfelter Library, Penn State York. The campus library seeks a proactive and creative librarian to provide general and specialized reference services. Duties of this position include the provision of reference services (both in person and in a virtual setting); bibliographic instruction; developing research guides and instructional materials; promoting library collections and services to faculty and students; and collection development.  This position will be filled either as a tenure-line or fixed-term faculty librarian position, depending upon the interests and qualifications of the successful candidate. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required.

 

Requirements: Requires a MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent); at least 2 years post-MLS experience with reference and bibliographic instruction in an academic setting; demonstrated knowledge of academic and library applications of Web 2.0 technologies; strong knowledge of print and electronic information resources; demonstrated potential to achieve the requirements for tenure and promotion in the areas of librarianship, research, and service; excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Compensation and Rank: Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits include liberal vacation, excellent insurance and health care coverage, state or TIAA/CREF retirement options, and educational privileges.  In addition, faculty in the University Libraries are afforded funds for professional development travel annually.  Faculty may be asked to travel as official representatives of the Libraries to certain events and those trips are reimbursed at full cost within limits established by the University.

Penn State York is largely a commuter campus with approximately 1200 students. The campus offers ten bachelor’s degree, six associate degree programs and the first two years of more that 160 Penn State majors. The campus is located just outside the city of York, part of a metropolitan area with a population of 340,000. The campus library is a modern, two-story building that offers excellent spaces for study and research, and serves as a gateway to the resources of the Penn State University Libraries system.
