SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES
Under the general direction of the Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services,
and working closely with the other original catalogers, the Original
Cataloger/Copy-Cataloging Team Leader is responsible for supervising and
directing the work of the Library's copy-cataloging staff. This individual
ensures quality of records brought into Pegasus for monograph titles based
on local and national productivity and efficiency and monitors the accuracy
and quality of cataloging and metadata records imported. In close
collaboration with other catalogers and the Metadata Management/Catalog
Librarian, this individual provides original cataloging records and NACO
authority records for Library materials, performs related database
management duties as needed, and serves as a facilitator of
copy-cataloging-related trainings within the department.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· 3 years experience of original and complex adaptive cataloging in all
formats in an academic library
· Demonstrated proficiency using automated library systems, AACR2, RDA,
LCRI, LCSH, LCC, MARC21 formats, and OCLC
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritizing work
to ensure that departmental and library goals are realized
· Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership abilities to
effectively motivate and influence others
· Supervisory experience of establishing employee goals and the ability
to measure effectiveness of contributions
· Experienced in training catalogers and writing cataloging
documentation
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
· Reading knowledge of at least one Western European language
· Experience with NACO program
